Basilians

The Basilian Fathers, or Congregation of St Basil, founded in France in 1822, are now centred in Toronto. They came to Canada in 1850 and in 1852 founded St Michael's College there. They have concentrated on high-school and university education, working in high schools in Toronto and Windsor in Ontario and in Lethbridge, Alberta. They pioneered the federation of Catholic colleges with provincial universities and work with the universities of Toronto, Windsor, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia, as well as having chaplaincies on other campuses. They run the Pontifical Institute of Medieval Studies in Toronto.
