Denyse Angé (b Angers). Singer, b Quebec City 31 Oct 1936. The sister of the singer Danièle Dorice and of the drummer Georges Angers, she began singing at 15 with Gilbert Darisse's dance band at the Château Frontenac in Quebec City. In 1955 she represented Quebec in the Miss Canada beauty pageant. Winner of an ACTRA award as "outstanding newcomer in Canadian TV" in 1955, Angé appeared for the next 10 years on many CBC TV and CTV variety shows and sang 13 Mar 1960 for CBS TV in New York on 'The Ed Sullivan Show'. She performed frequently outside Canada during this period - eg, in the West Indies in 1959, at Canadian military bases in the Middle East in 1960 and 1961, and in South America in 1962 and in Australia in 1964. After living 1965-72 in New York, where she appeared in supper clubs and on TV, she returned to Montreal and continued to perform until 1976. Angé, who sang in French, English and Spanish, possessed "a slightly husky voice and a good sense of phrasing; she knows how to color her words and she can shape a pop ballad or a French number to her own requirements" (Frank Morriss, Toronto Globe and Mail, 18 Nov 1959). She recorded LPs for Columbia and, with the Jimmy Dale Orchestra, the CTL.
