George Anderson Wells, bishop, scholar, lecturer (b at Clarke's Beach, Nfld 18 Nov 1877; d at Toronto 10 Apr 1964). Wells was a fisherman, sealer, labourer, and a trooper in the SOUTH AFRICAN WAR before continuing his education at various American institutions.

George Anderson Wells, bishop, scholar, lecturer (b at Clarke's Beach, Nfld 18 Nov 1877; d at Toronto 10 Apr 1964). Wells was a fisherman, sealer, labourer, and a trooper in the SOUTH AFRICAN WAR before continuing his education at various American institutions. Ordained a minister of the Church of England in 1910, he was a chaplain during WWI and chaplain of the fleet during WWII. He was awarded the CMG in 1918. He became bishop of the Cariboo diocese in 1934 and was assistant bishop to the bishop of Toronto 1946-51.
