Lina Quilico (b Pizzolongo). Pianist, coach, teacher of singing, b Montreal 25 Jan 1925, d Toronto 21 Sep 1991; lauréat (AMQ) 1946, premiere prix piano (CMM) 1948. She studied 1947-8 at the CMM with Yvonne Hubert, and in 1949 at the École normale de musique de Paris with Alfred Cortot and Marguerite Long. Her teacher at the St Cecilia Academy in Rome was Carlo Zecchi. She performed as soloist with the CSM (MSO) in 1945, the CBC Montreal orchestra (1949, 1950, 1951, 1952), and on CBC TV (1953). She first taught at the CMM, then 1970-87 at the University of Toronto and 1987-90 at McGill University. As coach and accompanist she was a central force in the careers of her husband, Louis, and her son, Gino.
