Martensville, Sask, incorporated as a town in 1969 and a city in 2009, population 7716 (2011c), 4978 (2006c). The City of Martensville is located 9 km north of SASKATOON. In the late 1960s as Saskatoon's population underwent significant growth, a number of new subdivisions and bedroom communities were established on the periphery of the city. Martensville is one such community. Area farmer Isaac Martens and his son Dave Martens (after whom the town is named) saw an opportunity to subdivide their land into at first acreages and then as town lots. The area was popular with suburbanites looking for lower land prices and new homes, and so the community of Martensville was created.
