Norman McLeod Rogers

Norman McLeod Rogers, scholar, politician (b at Amherst, NS 25 July 1894; d at Newtonville, Ont 10 June 1940). Educated at Acadia and Oxford, Rogers interrupted his studies to serve in WWI. He was professor of history at Acadia, 1922-27, private secretary to PM KING, 1927-29.

Norman McLeod Rogers, scholar, politician (b at Amherst, NS 25 July 1894; d at Newtonville, Ont 10 June 1940). Educated at Acadia and Oxford, Rogers interrupted his studies to serve in WWI. He was professor of history at Acadia, 1922-27, private secretary to PM KING, 1927-29. Although a professor of political science at Queen's, 1929-35, Rogers kept his connections with King, authoring a campaign biography, Mackenzie King (1935). Elected to Parliament for Kingston, Ont, in 1935, he became minister of labour and the leading progressive liberal in the Cabinet. Appointed minister of national defence in 1939, he died the next year in a plane crash.
