Saint-Antoine

Saint-Antoine, Qué, pop 11 488 (2001c), 10 806 (1996c), is located 40 km northwest of MONTRÉAL. Saint-Antoine was first set up as a parish municipality in 1956 under the name of Saint-Antoine-des-Laurentides. Its present name, shortened upon incorporation as a town in 1967, was given to the parish and locality to commemorate the colourful apostle of colonization, the "Roi du Nord," Monsignor Antoine LABELLE. In January 2002, Saint-Antoine was amalgamated with Saint-Jérôme, Bellefeuille and Lafontaine to form the new city of SAINT-JÉRÔME.
