Melissa Ward

Melissa Ward is a PhD student (supervised by Wayne Pollard) in permafrost geomorphology at McGill University in Montréal. She studies the response of ice-rich permafrost to climate change in the Fosheim Peninsula, on Ellesmere Island, Nunavut. Melissa’s research is mostly based out of the Eureka Weather Station. During her Master of Science, Melissa studied two hyper-saline perennial springs and associate salt deposits on Axel Heiberg Island. These deposits will be used as analogues for similar deposits identified on Mars. Melissa has been in love with the Arctic since her first field season in 2013 (her love persists even after sleeping in -35°C in a tent in the High Arctic). www.melissakward.com
