George Leslie Mackay, Presbyterian missionary (b at Zorra, Oxford County, Canada W 22 Mar 1844; d in Formosa [Taiwan] 2 June 1901). A graduate student in Edinburgh, Mackay decided to become a missionary after hearing Alexander Duff, the "apostle to India," call for foreign evangelism.
Jean-Paul Tardif, financier (b at Québec City 15 May 1923). After graduating from Laval, Tardif began work in 1947 with his father's investment company, Savings and Investment Corp, first as treasurer and then as managing director. In 1951 he became chief executive officer and in 1959, president.
Sophia Margaretta Hensley, née Almon, author, lecturer (b at Bridgetown, NS 31 May 1866; d at Windsor, NS 10 Feb 1946). An early protégé of Sir Charles G.D. ROBERTS, Hensley published articles, poetry and fiction that reflected her interest in women's issues and social tolerance.
Flora MacDonald Denison, née Merrill, feminist, journalist, businesswoman (b in N Hastings County, Ont 20? Feb 1867; d at Toronto 23 May 1921). Denison, who combined running a successful Toronto dressmaking business with a writing career, was active in the suffrage movement in Toronto from 1906.
