Alex Baumann showed his potential as a world-class swimmer at a young age. Under coach Jeno Tihanyi, Baumann won 10 age-group events and set 9 records during his first year of competition. His abilities became widely recognized and several American universities subsequently sought him out.

Ben Johnson, track and field athlete (b at Falmouth, Jamaica 30 Dec 1961). In 1976 Johnson immigrated to Canada and was attracted to competitive sprinting, initially in the 100 and 200 m.

In 1867 he campaigned to have lacrosse accepted as Canada's national game. Though unsuccessful, his efforts helped raise the number of clubs from 6 to 80 that year, as did a national convention he organized in Kingston, Ontario.

Gary Beck, drag race driver (b at Seattle, Wash 21 Jan 1941). Beck raced stock cars for 12 years before becoming a drag racer, operating from his home in Edmonton, Alberta. He was an outstanding competitor in this sport during the 1970s.

Myrtle Cook-McGowan , (born at Toronto, 5 Jan 1902; died at Elora, Ont 18 Mar 1985). Myrtle Cook was an athlete and journalist who participated in the 1928 OLYMPIC GAMES in TRACK AND FIELD.

Myriam Bédard, biathlete (b at Loretteville, Que 22 Dec 1969). Bédard took up biathlon while a cadet at the age of 15 and entered her first competition the next year using rented skis.

When the new heavyweight champion, Riddick Bowe, whom Lewis had beaten in the Olympic gold medal bout, refused to defend his title against Lewis, the World Boxing Council stripped Bowe of the title and awarded it to Lewis.

By 1991 she had become the premier women's rower in the world, winning the World Cup championship and the World Championship that year. Two months prior to the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Laumann's boat was rammed accidentally when she was preparing for a regatta in Europe.

Walter Knox, track and field athlete (b at Listowel, Ont 1878; d at St Petersburg, Fla 3 Mar 1951). Knox was one of the most versatile and successful performers in Canadian sport. From 1896 to 1933, he obtained 359 firsts, 90 seconds and 52 thirds in competition.

George Knudson, golfer (b at Winnipeg 28 June 1937; d at Toronto 24 Jan 1989). Knudson was introduced to golf as a teenager at St Charles Country Club, Winnipeg, and later moved to Toronto. Fascinated with the golf swing, he was determined to make his reliable and efficient.

Robert Kerr, track and field athlete, coach (b at Enniskillen, Ire 1882; d at Hamilton, Ont 12 May 1963). Despite the "marathon craze" of the time, Robert Kerr took advantage of the speed required for his occupation as

Sandra Post, golfer (b in Oakville, Ont 4 June 1948). She became Canada's first female professional golfer in 1968 and won the Ladies Professional Golf Association Championship at Sutton, Mass, during her rookie year.

In 1962 Chicago owner James Norris offered $1 million for him in a much-publicized incident. He was traded to Detroit 1968 and then Montréal 1971, where he set a new playoff scoring record that year (14 goals and 13 assists).

Philip Edward Marchildon, baseball player (born 25 October 1913 in Penetanguishene, Ontario; died 10 January 1997 in Toronto, Ontario).
