Montréal-Nord was created when it was detached from the parish municipality of Sault-aux-Récollets (1855). The area originally covered by Sault-aux-Récollets also included the Montréal districts of Ahuntsic and Saint-Michel, as well as the cities of Saint-Léonard and Anjou.

Vanier, Qué, City, pop 11 054 (2001c), 11 174 (1996c), 10 833(1991c), area 4.59 km2, inc 1916, was originally named Québec-Ouest until 1966, when it was changed to Vanier in honour of Governor-General Georges-Philéas VANIER.

The area was granted to Philippe de Rigaud de VAUDREUIL in 1703. However, it was his successor, Michel Chartier de Lotbinière, who fostered the settlement and development of the seigneury that he had bought from the Vaudreuil family in 1763. The FUR TRADE and agriculture supported the local economy.

Beginning around 1910, the town experienced renewed prosperity as a fur-trading centre, stimulated by Sir Charles Dalton and Robert T. Oulton's successful breeding of silver foxes in captivity. In 1920 Summerside was established as the headquarters of the Canadian National Silver Fox Breeders' Assn.

Marshall, Sask, incorporated as a village in 1914 and as a town in 2006, population 533 (2011c), 608 (2006c). The Town of Marshall is located on the Canadian National Railway line and the Yellowhead Highway between LLOYDMINSTER and NORTH BATTLEFORD, in the Rural Municipality of WILTON.

Wadena, Sask, incorporated as a town in 1912, population 1306 (2011c), 1315 (2006c). The Town of Wadena is located about 200 km east of SASKATOON near the Quill Lakes. In the 18th century this area was the territory of the Saulteaux.

Saint-Quentin, NB, incorporated as a town in 1992, population 2095 (2011c), 2250 (2006c). The Town of Saint-Quentin is located in northern New Brunswick in the Appalachian Highlands between the RESTIGOUCHE and MIRAMICHI rivers and tributaries of the SAINT JOHN RIVER.

Balgonie, Sask, incorporated as a town in 1907, population 1625 (2011c), 1384 (2006c). The Town of Balgonie is located 24 km east of Regina, between Pilot Butte and McLean on the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) main line. The name refers to Balgonie Castle in Scotland.

The town of Outlook developed as a result of railway land development. In 1908 the Canadian Pacific Railway purchased the farm of a local homesteader and announced that it would be developed as a townsite.

Sherbrooke Village in Sherbrooke, NS, is unusual in that it is not a collection of historic buildings moved into a reconstructed townsite, but rather the older portion of the actual village of Sherbrooke.

Dorval was a farming community and a resort area until the outset of the Second World War. In 1941 it became the home of the FERRY COMMAND and of a military airport, today's Montréal International Airport. After the war, this airport was an economic magnet.

The name Pincourt goes back to the days of the fur traders and voyageurs who, on seeing the pine forest which at that time covered most of the western half of the island, described the trees as being rather short and dwarf-like in stature. They called the place Pins courts, that is, "short pines.

Bella Coola, BC, Unincorporated Place, population 95 (2011c), 135 (2006c). Bella Coola is a small community situated on the north arm of Burke Channel, where Alexander Mackenzie first sighted the Pacific in 1793.
