Prince George, British Columbia, incorporated as a city in 1915, population 76,708 (2021 census), 74,003 (2016 census). Prince George is the largest city in the northern part of the province. It is situated in the geographical centre of British Columbia at the junction of the Nechako and Fraser rivers. Prince George was founded on the traditional territory of the Lheidli T'enneh, a sub-group of the Dakelh or Carrier Dene. The Dakelh aided Alexander Mackenzie on his journey to the Pacific coast in 1793.

British North America refers to the British colonies and territories in North America after the US became independent in 1783 (see also American Revolution) and until Confederation in 1867. The British North America Act (BNA Act), which came into effect on 1 July 1867, united three of the five British North American colonies. The Act (renamed the Constitution Act, 1867, in 1982) is the foundational document of Canada’s Constitution.

Hespeler, Ont, is located in southwestern Ontario, on the Speed River.

Douglastown, NB, is an urban community within the city of MIRAMICHI located on the north bank of the MIRAMICHI RIVER.

After 1885 settlement of the land around the lake by families from the older regions of Québec led to the establishment of Ville-Marie. The name dates from 1896 and honours the patron of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, indicating the Oblates' role in the development of the region.

Mirabel, Quebec, incorporated as a city in 1971, population 50,513 (2016 census), 41,957 (2011 census). Mirabel is located some 57 km northwest of Montreal, is one of Quebec's youngest cities and also one of its most extended. It is home to the former Montreal-Mirabel International Airport. Mirabel is situated on the ancestral lands of the Haudenosaunee, including the Kanyen'kehà:ka, as well as the Anishinaabeg, notably the Algonquin (see Indigenous peoples in Canada).

A Hudson's Bay Company's trading post operated intermittently in the area from 1838 to 1952. A sawmill near the trading post attracted a permanent population, and the establishment of an arctic CHAR fishing co-operative in 1959 cemented the community's existence.

Fairview, Alta, incorporated as a town in 1949, population 3162 (2011c), 3297 (2006c). The Town of Fairview is located in the Peace River country of northern Alberta, 110 km north of Grande Prairie.

Kaslo, BC, incorporated as a village in 1959, population 1026 (2011c), 1072 (2006c). The Village of Kaslo is located 70 km north of Nelson, overlooking KOOTENAY LAKE. It was established in 1892 to service the silver-mining boom sweeping the Kootenays. The origin of the name is unclear.

Kentville, NS, incorporated as a town in 1886, population 6094 (2011c), 5815 (2006c). The Town of Kentville is located on the Cornwallis River, 110 km northwest of Halifax.

Florenceville-Bristol, NB, incorporated as a town in 2008, population 1639 (2011c), 1539 (2006c). Florenceville-Bristol was formed by the amalgamation of two villages, Florenceville and Bristol (both incorporated in 1966) and is situated 146 km up the SAINT JOHN RIVER from Fredericton.

Woodstock, NB, incorporated as a town in 1856, population 5254 (2011c), 5113 (2006c). The Town of Woodstock, the shire town of Carleton County, is located 103 km up the Saint John River from Fredericton, at the mouth of the Meduxnekeag River.

Tatamagouche, NS, incorporated as a village in 1950, population 752 (2011c), 689 (2006c).

Silver was found in 1891 and a rush followed, with thousands of prospectors staking the silver-bearing slopes. By 1895 Sandon was a thriving town and the terminus of 2 railways.

Barrington, NS, Unincorporated Place. Barrington, a small community within the municipal district of Barrington (incorporated in 1879), is located on the southwestern tip of Nova Scotia.

Boucherville is one of the oldest municipalities in Québec. In 1668, Pierre Boucher began farming in the area and 4 years later received his seigneury, consisting of Îles-Percées and the adjacent islands. Boucher secured the community against Iroquois attack by constructing a palisade.
