 James Wilson Morrice, painter (b at Montréal 10 Aug 1865; d at Tunis, Tunisia 23 Jan 1924). Morrice was one of the earliest Canadian modernist painters and the first Canadian to achieve widespread acceptance abroad.

Dora Mavor Moore, actress, teacher (b at Glasgow, Scot 8 Apr 1888; d at Toronto 15 May 1979). After studying elocution at Toronto's Margaret Eaton School of Expression, she became the first Canadian to graduate from London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

Helmut (Friedrich Ludwig) Brauss. Pianist, teacher, b Milan, of German parents (19 Oct 1930 — 7 Oct 2017). This prominent European pianist (pupil of Elly Ney, Hans Ehlers, and Edwin Fischer) moved to Canada in 1966 to teach at the University of Saskatchewan, Regina campus.

Suzanne Paradis, poet, novelist, essayist and literary critic (b at Québec City 27 Oct 1936). Though she had already published several poems and stories, it was only in 1962 that she decided to devote herself to writing.

Norman Antony Onley, "Toni," painter (b at Douglas, Isle of Man, UK 20 Nov 1928; d near Maple Ridge, BC, 29 Feb 2004). Onley received his early art training in Douglas on the Isle of Man, and also became an apprentice to a local architect.

James Kenneth Campbell, clarinetist, wind soloist, teacher (b at Leduc, Alta 10 Aug 1949). A graduate of University of Toronto (B. Mus 1971), Campbell was a member of the Hamilton Philharmonic (1967-69) and the NATIONAL YOUTH ORCHESTRA (1966-69).

Very quickly, her extraordinary voice and her simplicity conquered the province of Quebec, and her career experienced a meteoric rise. In 1982, she took part in the Tokyo Song Festival with 'Tellement j'ai d'amour pour toi,' and won the musicians' prize as well as a gold medal.

Joseph-Alphonse Ouimet, engineer, CBC president (b at Montréal 12 June 1908; d there 20 Dec 1988). Educated at Université de Montréal and McGill, Ouimet worked for a firm developing television and built a prototype TV receiver in 1932.

Moses Henry Perley, lawyer, naturalist, author (b at Maugerville, NB 31 Dec 1804; d off Labrador coast 17 Aug 1862). An avid sportsman and natural historian, Perley became the leading authority on NB's resources in the mid-19th century.

Albert Frank Moritz, poet, professor (b 15 Apr 1947 at Niles, Ohio, US). A.F. Moritz attended Marquette University (Wisconsin), where he earned a BA in journalism and a MA and PhD in English literature. Since 1974 he has lived in Toronto, where he is a professor at the University of Toronto.
