Cockburn became involved in sports as a diver when she was a child; she used the trampoline as a training tool for her diving practice. After trying artistic gymnastics, she switched to competitive trampolining at age 11.

Louis-Joseph Forget, stockbroker, politician (b at Terrebonne, Canada E 11 Mar 1853; d at Nice, France 7 Apr 1911). Forget established his own brokerage firm in Montréal in 1873, dealing mainly in transportation and utility company securities.

Edward Foster, policeman, fingerprint pioneer (b near Stittsville, Ont 14 Nov 1863; d at Ottawa 21 Jan 1956). Foster joined the DOMINION POLICE as a constable in 1890. While at the St Louis World's Fair in 1904, his interest was awakened in the controversial science of fingerprint identification.

James Kidd Flemming, businessman, premier of New Brunswick 1911-14 (b at Woodstock, NB 27 Apr 1868; d there 10 Feb 1927). Flemming served as provincial secretary and receiver general before becoming premier in 1911.

Joseph Herman Hirshhorn, mining promoter, art collector (b at Mitau, Latvia 11 Aug 1900; d at Washington, DC 31 Aug 1981). Hirshhorn immigrated at an early age to the US, rising from office boy to stockbroker to entrepreneur. In 1933 he opened an office in Toronto.

Burtynsky began taking photographs at an early age. When he was 11, his father, a Ukrainian immigrant who worked on the production line at the local General Motors plant, purchased a darkroom and cameras from a widow whose husband had been an amateur photographer.

Nicolas Fontaine, freestyle skier - aerials (b at Magog, Qué 5 October 1970) As a pupil of former Canadian aerialist Jean-Marc Rozon, he won his first-ever World Cup medal (silver) as a member of Canada's national development team.

Percy Algernon Taverner, ornithologist (b at Guelph, Ont 10 June 1875; d at Ottawa 9 May 1947). Taverner first earned a living as an architectural draughtsman while studying birds in his spare time.

Fleming, Michael Anthony, Roman Catholic bishop of Newfoundland (b at Carrick-on-Suir, Ire 1792?; d at St John's 14 July 1850). A Franciscan priest, Fleming came to St John's in 1823.

John A. Flett, carpenter, trade-union organizer (b at Hamilton 1860; d there 19 Mar 1941). Flett began a long, distinguished labour career in his local carpenters' union.
