Aubin-Edmond Arsenault, lawyer, politician, premier of PEI (b at Egmont Bay, PEI 28 July 1870; d at Charlottetown 29 Apr 1968). In 1917 Arsenault became premier of the Island, the first Acadian premier of any Canadian province.

John Langton, first auditor general of Canada (b at Blythe Hall near Ormskirk, Eng 6 Apr 1808; d at Toronto 19 Mar 1894). Educated at Cambridge, he immigrated to Canada in 1833 where he established a farm near Fenelon Falls, Upper Canada.

E. Herbert Norman, diplomat, scholar (b at Karuizawa, Japan 1 Sept 1909; d at Cairo, Egypt 4 Apr 1957); he studied at University of Toronto and Harvard, and, having joined the Department of External Affairs (now Foreign Affairs and International Trade), was posted to Japan, 1940-42.

James Boyle Uniacke, lawyer, politician (b probably 1799, bap at Halifax 19 Jan 1800; d there 26 Mar 1858). As the son of Richard John UNIACKE, he enjoyed favoured status in NS politics and society.

As a young man, Biencourt was reputedly tactless in dealing with others, and his violent quarrels with Jesuit missionaries undoubtedly harmed the colony. His determination, however, was crucial to the survival of the French presence in Acadia after a disastrous English raid in 1613.

John Macaulay, merchant, journalist, office-holder, politician (b at Kingston, UC 17 Oct 1792; d there 10 Aug 1857). A prosperous merchant and an immensely capable, perceptive man, Macaulay came to attention as coeditor and owner of the Kingston Chronicle 1818-22.

James David Stewart, lawyer, politician, premier of PEI (b at Lower Montague, PEI 15 Jan 1874; d at Charlottetown 10 Oct 1933). Stewart was premier of PEI 1923-27 and from 1931 until his death.

François-Xavier Tessier, doctor, politician (b at Québec C 15 Sept 1799; d there 1835). Tessier studied in Québec City and New York and was admitted to the practice of medicine in 1823.

Elijah Harper, Oji-Cree politician, consultant, policy analyst (born 3 March 1949 at Red Sucker Lake, MB; died 17 May 2013 in Ottawa, ON). Harper is best known for the role he played in scuttling the Meech Lake Accord, for which he was named the Canadian Press newsmaker of the year for 1990.

James Shearer Armstrong, lawyer, author, judge (b at Sorel, LC 27 Apr 1821; d there 23 Nov 1888). An able but undistinguished Québec advocate, James Armstrong was given an unprecedented promotion in 1871 when he was appointed chief justice of St Lucia in the West Indies.

Gerald Augustine Regan, lawyer, politician, premier of NS (b at Windsor, NS 13 Feb 1928). He was elected MP in 1963 and leader of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party in 1965.
