Graham Ford Towers, banker, public servant (b at Montréal 29 Sept 1897; d at Ottawa 4 Dec 1975). Towers served in WWI and graduated from McGill in 1919. Although originally intending to study law, he entered the service of the ROYAL BANK OF CANADA.

Wilfrid Gagnon, businessman (b at Montréal 15 Sept 1898; d there 10 June 1963). A graduate of Montréal's Collège Sainte-Marie, Gagnon joined his family's shoe-manufacturing firm, Aird and Son Ltd, becoming president in 1926.

Jacob Lewis Englehart, industrialist (b at Cleveland, Ohio 2 Nov 1847; d at Toronto 6 Apr 1921). In 1869, at age 19, he established Englehart and Co, one of the most successful producers in the Petrolia, Ont, fields, where the world's first commercial oil production had begun in 1857.

Henry Robert Emmerson, lawyer, businessman, premier of New Brunswick (b at Maugerville, NB 25 Sept 1853; d at Dorchester, NB 9 July 1914).

Ezra Butler Eddy, manufacturer (b near Bristol, Vt 22 Aug 1827; d at Hull, Qué 12 Feb 1906).

William Cameron Edwards, industrialist, politician (b in Clarence Twp, Russell County, Canada W 7 May 1844; d at Ottawa 17 Sept 1921). Edwards entered the lumbering business in Thurso but moved to Rockland in 1868 and founded W.C.

Edward Ellice, fur trader, merchant, politician (b at London, Eng 23 or 27 Sept 1783; d near Glengarry, Scot 17 Sept 1863).

George Alexander Elliott, economist, professor, civil servant (b at Napier, Ont 22 July 1901).

Robert Ferguson, businessman (b at Logierait, Scot 17 Apr 1768; d at Campbellton, NB 10 Aug 1851). He came to the RESTIGOUCHE RIVER in 1796 and was soon the most prominent merchant and largest landowner in the region.

William Fernie, prospector, miner, entrepreneur (b at Kimbolton, Eng 2 Apr 1837; d at Victoria 15 May 1921). After travelling through Australasia and South America, he came to Vancouver Island in 1860.

Louis-Joseph Forget, stockbroker, politician (b at Terrebonne, Canada E 11 Mar 1853; d at Nice, France 7 Apr 1911). Forget established his own brokerage firm in Montréal in 1873, dealing mainly in transportation and utility company securities.

James Kidd Flemming, businessman, premier of New Brunswick 1911-14 (b at Woodstock, NB 27 Apr 1868; d there 10 Feb 1927). Flemming served as provincial secretary and receiver general before becoming premier in 1911.

Joseph Herman Hirshhorn, mining promoter, art collector (b at Mitau, Latvia 11 Aug 1900; d at Washington, DC 31 Aug 1981). Hirshhorn immigrated at an early age to the US, rising from office boy to stockbroker to entrepreneur. In 1933 he opened an office in Toronto.

Maxwell Charles Gordon Meighen, financier (b at Portage la Prairie, Man 5 June 1908; d at Toronto 25 Feb 1992), son of PM Arthur MEIGHEN.

John A. Flett, carpenter, trade-union organizer (b at Hamilton 1860; d there 19 Mar 1941). Flett began a long, distinguished labour career in his local carpenters' union.

John David Eaton, merchant (b at Toronto 4 Oct 1909; d there 4 Aug 1973), second son of Sir John Craig EATON. He left Cambridge at age 21 to begin his apprenticeship with the T. EATON CO LTD in the men's wear dept of the Toronto store.

Sir James Hamet Dunn, financier, industrialist (b at Bathurst, NB 29 Oct 1874; d at St Andrews, NB 1 Jan 1956). Dunn attended Dalhousie Law School 1895-98 and, after stints as a lawyer in Edmonton and Montréal, turned to investment banking.

Charles Benjamin Lang, industrialist (b at Thornton, Ill 17 Sept 1887; d at Montréal 23 Feb 1958). For 44 years Lang was an executive of the Dominion Steel and Coal Corporation (DOSCO), Maritime Canada's largest integrated steel producer.

Sir Joseph Wesley Flavelle, meat packer, financier, philanthropist (b at Peterborough, Canada W 15 Feb 1858; d at Palm Beach, Fla 7 Mar 1939).

Patrick Martin Draper"Paddy," printer, trade-union leader (b at Aylmer, Qué 1868; d at Ottawa 23 Nov 1943). Apprenticed as a printer, Draper began work at the Government Printing Bureau in Ottawa in 1888, and eventually served as director of printing from 1921 until retirement in 1933.
