Thomas McIlwraith, businessman, ornithologist (b at Newton upon Ayr, Scot 25 Dec 1824; d at Hamilton, Ont 31 Jan 1903). He is best known for his 1886 treatise on Ontario birds (revised in 1894), the first major annotated provincial bird book in Canada.

James MacBraire, soldier, merchant, shipowner, justice of the peace (b at Enniscorthy, Wexford, Ire 1760; d at Berwick on Tweed, Eng 24 Mar 1832). He is first recorded in Harbour Grace, Nfld, in the 1780s working as a clerk for a Bristol firm engaged in the cod fishery.

John Wilson McConnell, publisher, businessman (b in Muskoka, Ont 1 July 1877; d at Montréal 6 Nov 1963). McConnell was the owner of the Montreal Star, the largest English-language newspaper in Québec, and as such was a force in the land. He went into business in Toronto as a young man.

Gilbert McMicken, businessman, politician, magistrate, police commissioner (born 13 October 1813 in Glenluce, Wigtonshire, Scotland; died 6 March 1891 in Winnipeg, MB). McMicken was head of the Western Frontier Constabulary, Canada’s first secret service, which was established in 1864 in response to the American Civil War. He was also the first commissioner of the Dominion Police, Canada’s first federal police body and forerunner of the RCMP, which was instituted in 1868 following the assassination of Thomas D’Arcy McGee. McMicken served in municipal government in Niagara, in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada (1858–61) and in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba.

Ross Huntington McMaster, industrialist (b at Montréal 11 Oct 1880; d there 3 Jan 1962). For over 50 years, McMaster was a senior executive of the Steel Company of Canada (STELCO). He began his career with the Sherwin-Williams Paint Co.

Alexander Stirling MacMillan, businessman, politician, premier of Nova Scotia 1940-45 (b at Upper South River, NS 31 Oct 1871?; d at Halifax 7 Aug 1955).

Eric Herbert Molson, industrial capitalist (b at Montréal 16 Sept 1937). Molson was educated at Bishop's, Princeton and McGill.

Sir Frederic Nicholls, capitalist, business lobbyist (b in England 23 Nov 1856; d at Battle Creek, Mich 25 Oct 1921). Nicholls played a crucial role in promoting early manufacturing in Canada. Educated as an electrical engineer in Germany, he came to Canada in 1874.

William McIntosh, fur trader (b at Grand Rapids, US 1784; d 16 Feb 1842). By 1816 a wintering partner in the North West Company, he had previously been positioned at Lesser Slave Lake (1803) in the Peace River country (1805) and at Fort Vermilion (1815).

Edwin Mirvish "Ed," theatrical producer, entrepreneur (b at Colonial Beach, Virginia 24 July 1914, d at Toronto 11 July 2007).

James Young Murdoch, lawyer, mining executive (b at Toronto 29 July 1890; d there 18 Apr 1962). A graduate of Osgoode Hall, Murdoch practised mining law in the Toronto firm Holden and Murdoch 1913-62; he was created King's Counsel in 1929.

John Molson, Jr, brewer, entrepreneur in banking, transportation and utilities (b at Montréal 14 Oct 1787; d there 12 July 1860), eldest son of John MOLSON the elder, whose deputy he was from 1807 to 1835.

Patrick Morris, merchant, shipowner, politician and officeholder (b at Waterford, Ire 1789; d at St John's 22 Aug 1849).

Joseph Morris, labour organizer (b in Lancashire, Eng 14 June 1913; d at Victoria BC 1996). In 1929 Morris immigrated to Ladysmith, BC, where he worked as a scaler in the bush.
