Fredericton, NB. New Brunswick's capital city, located on the Saint John River on the site of a 1732 Acadian, and later Loyalist English, settlement at St Anne's Point. The name Fredericton was adopted in 1785. Incorporation as a city was accomplished in 1848.

Nickle Arts Museum started with a philanthropic gesture. In 1970, on the occasion of his 81st birthday, Alberta oil pioneer Samuel C. Nickle gave the University of Calgary $1 million which the Alberta government matched.

English-language theatre in the Province of Québec in the late 18th and early 19th centuries was not confined to ALLEN'S COMPANY OF COMEDIANS. Other troupes, whose members came from theatre traditions in Britain and the continent, travelled to Québec via Albany or Boston in the United States.

University of Calgary. Non-denominational institution founded in 1945 as the Calgary branch of the University of Alberta and granted autonomy as the University of Calgary in 1966. It has developed a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs.

Capital city of British Columbia. Established in 1843 on the southern tip of Vancouver Island as a Hudson's Bay Co trading post called Fort Victoria, the town had 148 adult inhabitants by 1855.

Winnipeg Auditorium. Winnipeg's main concert hall complex from 1932, when it opened, until 1968, when it was supplanted in that function by the Manitoba Centennial Concert Hall. It was designed jointly by three architectural firms - Northwood & Chivers, Pratt & Ross, and J.N.

The Art Gallery of Windsor began in 1943 in Willistead Manor, where exhibitions borrowed from other galleries and organizations could be displayed. Incorporated in 1944, the gallery soon began building its own collection and presenting exhibitions and education programs.

The Dalhousie Art Galleryis located in the Arts Centre of Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Established in 1953 in a one-room area of the Arts and Administration Building on the university campus, it is the oldest public art gallery in Halifax.

The Belfry's history began in 1974, when University of Victoria graduate student Blair Shakel started making theatrical use of the unheated Springridge Chapel of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in the heart of the ailing Fernwood neighbourhood.

University of Victoria. Non-denominational university in Victoria, BC. It is the successor of Victoria College, affiliated 1903-62 first with McGill University, then with the University of British Columbia.
