After the 1968 Soviet invasion, Skvorecky and his wife, the actress-novelist Zdena Salivarova, came to Toronto, where Skvorecky served as writer-in-residence at the UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO for a year and in 1971 joined its English department, where he taught literature and film until 1990.

Marcel Trudel, historian (born at St-Narcisse, Qué 29 May 1917; died at Longueuil, Qué 11 Jan 2011), one of the masters of contemporary Québec historiography. He shaped generations of historians, first at Laval (1947-65), briefly at Carleton University and then at Ottawa University (1966-82).

Marjan Mozetich, composer, teacher (b at Gorizia, Italy 7 Jan 1948). Arriving in Canada in 1952, Mozetich took piano and theory lessons in Hamilton with Reginald Bedford. After graduation from the University of Toronto in 1972, he studied in Europe with Luciano Berio.

J. (John) Chalmers Doane. Educator, administrator, ukulele player, string bassist, b Truro, NS, 3 Nov 1938; B MUS ED (Boston) 1967, honorary DFA (St. Mary's) 2003. He graduated in 1961 from Nova Scotia Teachers' College and later studied string methods with George Bornoff at Boston U.

Marcus Adeney. Cellist, writer, teacher, b London 1 Jul 1900, naturalized Canadian 1904, d Toronto 2 Mar 1998. As a child he studied violin with his mother, Ethelwyn Davies Adeney, a music teacher and a cousin of (Sir) Walford Davies. He began cello studies in Hamilton with J.

George Ramsay Cook, historian (born 28 November 1931 in Alameda, Saskatchewan; died 14 July 2016 in Toronto, Ontario). Educated at the UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA (BA), QUEEN'S UNIVERSITY (MA) and the UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO (U of T) (PhD), Ramsay Cook taught history first at U of T and later at YORK UNIVERSITY until his retirement in 1996.
