Henry Birks, silversmith, founder of Henry Birks and Sons (b at Montréal 30 Nov 1840; d there 16 Apr 1928). He graduated from Montreal High School in 1856 and spent the next winter perfecting his French. In April 1857 he joined Savage and Lyman, a large firm of watchmakers and jewellers.

James Jerome Hill, pioneer transportation official, railway magnate (b at Rockwood, UC 16 Sept 1838; d at St Paul, Minn 29 May 1916). In 1856 Hill settled in St Paul.

Charles Lavelle Broley, banker, ornithologist (b at Gorrie, Ont 7 Dec 1879; d at Delta, Ont 4 May 1959). A banker in Winnipeg, he was also active in ornithology and conservation. In 1939 he "retired" to winters in Florida and summers in Ontario.

John Rudolphus Booth, lumber manufacturer, railway builder (b near Waterloo, Lower Canada 5 Apr 1827; d at Ottawa, Ont 8 Dec 1925).

Gerald Keith Bouey, banker (born 2 April 1920 in Axford, Saskatchewan; died 6 February 2004 in Ottawa, Ontario). He became governor of the BANK OF CANADA in Feb 1973 and guided the country's MONETARY POLICY through the inflationary difficulties of the early 1980s.

Kenneth Colin (K.C.) Irving, OC, industrialist and entrepreneur (born 14 March 1899 in Bouctouche, NB; died 13 December 1992 in Saint John, NB). K.C. Irving built a business empire under the Irving name that ranges from pulp and paper and oil refining to newspaper publishing and broadcasting. He has been called New Brunswick’s first modern entrepreneurial industrialist. Businesses he founded were divided up among his sons and remain within the family. Irving companies continue to account for a large portion of New Brunswick’s economic activity.

Alexander Melville Bell, educator, founder of the Canadian telephone industry (b at Edinburgh, Scot 1 Mar 1819; d at Washington, DC 7 Aug 1905). He was the father of Alexander Graham Bell.

Jean-Paul Tardif, financier (b at Québec City 15 May 1923). After graduating from Laval, Tardif began work in 1947 with his father's investment company, Savings and Investment Corp, first as treasurer and then as managing director. In 1951 he became chief executive officer and in 1959, president.

John Bayne Maclean, publisher (b at Crieff, Canada W 26 Sept 1862; d at Toronto 25 Sept 1950).

Gilbert LaBine, prospector, mining promoter (b at Westmeath, Ont 10 Feb 1890; d at Toronto 8 June 1977). He and his brother Charlie formed ELDORADO GOLD MINES (1926) in Manitoba. When the mine petered out, he used the company's

John Sackville Labatt, brewer (b at London, Ont 10 Mar 1880; d at Port Stanley, Ont 8 July 1952). The eldest son of John LABATT, he was educated at Trinity College School and McGill. Succeeding his father, he was president of JOHN LABATT LTD 1915-50.

John Labatt, brewer, entrepreneur (b in Westminster Twp, Middlesex County, Upper Canada 11 Dec 1838; d at London, Ont 27 Apr 1915). Third son of John Kinder LABATT, he was educated at Caradoc Academy and secondary school in London.

H. Harrison McCain, executive (born 3 November 1927 in Florenceville, New Brunswick; died 19 March 2004 in Boston, Massachusetts). The son of an exporter of seed potatoes, McCain graduated from Acadia U and worked as a sales executive for Irving Oil Co.

Canadian Pacific Railway bought out his firm and 11 others in 1941 and appointed him general manager of the western lines (1942) and president of CP Air (1947). He inaugurated CP Air passenger services to Australia, Japan and Hong Kong and by 1957 had added a further 25 000 km of flight paths.

John Angus McDougald, "Bud," financier (b at Toronto 14 Mar 1908; d at Palm Beach, Fla 15 Mar 1978). An intensely private man fascinated by power, Bud McDougald developed ARGUS CORPORATION into one of Canada's dominant corporate entities.

John Wilson McConnell, publisher, businessman (b in Muskoka, Ont 1 July 1877; d at Montréal 6 Nov 1963). McConnell was the owner of the Montreal Star, the largest English-language newspaper in Québec, and as such was a force in the land. He went into business in Toronto as a young man.

Eric Herbert Molson, industrial capitalist (b at Montréal 16 Sept 1937). Molson was educated at Bishop's, Princeton and McGill.
