    Guglielmo Marconi

    Guglielmo Giovanni Maria Marconi, electrical engineer, inventor and businessman (born 25 April 1874 in Bologna, Italy; died 20 July 1937 in Rome, Italy). Marconi’s early experiments in wireless telegraphy demonstrated the potential of long-range radio communication. He is generally considered the inventor of the radio. Marconi’s first reputed reception of a transatlantic radio signal occurred at Signal Hill in St. John’s, Newfoundland, in 1901. The following year, he built a wireless transmission station in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. Half of the 1909 Nobel Prize in Physics went to Marconi for his work in wireless telegraphy.     Guy Laliberté

    Guy Laliberté, OC, OQ, street performer, businessman (born 2 September 1959 in St-Bruno, QC). Laliberté is the fire-breathing accordionist and stilt-walking founder of Cirque du Soleil. He transformed a small band of Québec buskers and street musicians into a performing organization of international repute. Laliberté is also the founder of the One Drop Foundation and in September 2009, he became the first Canadian space tourist.

    Guy Latraverse

    Guy Latraverse, COQ, OC, producer, impresario (born 5 July 1939 in Chicoutimi, QC; died 14 October 2023 in Montreal, QC). Known as the “father of Quebec show business,” Guy Latraverse was one of the pioneers of Quebec’s recording and entertainment industries. He managed and/or produced works by such artists as Pauline Julien, Claude Léveillée, Robert Charlebois, Louise Forestier and Yvon Deschamps, among many others. He was also involved in the founding of the Francofolies de Montréal and the annual awards honouring the best in Quebec music (Félix Awards, ADISQ), theatre (La soirée des Masques), film (Prix Jutra, now Prix Iris) and comedy (Les Olivier). He was made a Chevalier of the Ordre national du Québec and the Order de la Pléiade, as well as an Officer of the Order of Canada and the Order of Montreal. He was inducted into the Canadians Songwriters Hall of Fame in the Special Achievement category in 2010.

    Heather Stefanson

    Heather Dorothy Stefanson (née McDonald), Manitoba MLA 2000–present, premier of Manitoba 2021–23, Cabinet minister, attorney general, financial adviser (born 11 May 1970 in Winnipeg, MB). Heather Stefanson has been the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Winnipeg district of Tuxedo since 2000. After the Progressive Conservative (PC) Party won the 2016 election under leader Brian Pallister, Stefanson entered his Cabinet as minister of justice, attorney general and deputy premier. She was later minister of families and minister of health and seniors care. After Pallister resigned in 2021, Stefanson became PC leader and Manitoba's first female premier. She announced she would step down as leader after the party lost the general election in October 2023.
