Canadian Electroacoustic Community/Communauté électroacoustique canadienne.The idea of an association bringing together the electroacoustic musicians of Canada was introduced during the electroacoustic Wired Society festival held in Toronto in 1986. In July 1986, following the initiative of Kevin Austin and Jean-François Denis (president 1986-90) who wrote the charter of the organization, the CEC was officially created with the support of about 100 members. In 1990 Ned Bouhalassa succeeded Denis as president. In accordance with its goals and to insure the continued promotion of electroacoustic music, the CEC organized three Electroacoustic Days: Diffusion! in Toronto (1988), Convergence in Banff (1989) and Perspectives in Montreal (1991). These have allowed composers and researchers to perform their works and to undertake joint projects. The CEC published six issues of Newsletter/Bulletin (1986-8), which was replaced in 1988 by the periodical Contact!, a review of Canadian electroacoustical activities and a forum for Canadian and foreign composers. It also has published Guides to the Electroacoustic Days. The numerous contacts established with various Canadian and international organizations include the agreement concluded with the Canadian Music Centre to set up a national electroacoustic archives. The CEC constitutes the national federation of the International Circuit of Electroacoustics. The headquarters of CEC are located in Montreal. An informal liaison has been established between CMCentre, the Assn of Canadian Women Composers, and the CEC.
