Donald (James Fletcher) Hadfield. Organist-choirmaster, b Winnipeg 23 Oct 1931, d there 18 Jan 2005; ARCM 1950, BA (St John's College) 1957, B PED (Manitoba) 1958. He studied organ 1946-53 with Douglas Bodle and Hugh Bancroft . An accomplished musician who specialized in Anglican church music, Hadfield was organist-choirmaster at a succession of Winnipeg churches: St James Anglican 1946-51, St Aidan's Anglican 1951-3, St John's Cathedral 1953-8, and All Saints' Anglican 1958-65. He returned to All Saints' after a sojourn 1965-7 at St Matthias, Westmount (Montreal) and, under his direction, the choir travelled to England in 1979, 1982, 1985, and 1989, singing services in a total of eight cathedrals. He retired from All Saints' in 1989 and in 1990 continued to teach piano and singing. He gave many recitals in public and on the CBC, and with the All Saints' choir he has recorded a collection of anthems and hymns, including Through the Church Year with All Saints' Winnipeg (1970, Century 21), and a recording of Christmas and Anglican service music, How Lovely Are Thy Dwellings (1983, Century 21).

In 1993 Hadfield assisted with the refurbishment of the Holy Trinity Church pipe organ in Winnipeg.
