Haney, BC, Unincorporated Place. Haney is a community within the district municipality of MAPLE RIDGE. It is situated 45 km east of VANCOUVER, bounded on the south by the FRASER RIVER and the Canadian Pacific Railway, and on the north by the Lougheed Highway. The community was originally named Port Haney after Mr and Mrs Thomas Haney, who homesteaded there in 1876. Early industries were brickmaking and mixed farming. Haney developed into the main business centre and seat of government for all of Maple Ridge and because of its proximity is now a "bedroom suburb" of Vancouver. The Haney post office was renamed Maple Ridge in 1970.
