(E.) Jules Brazil. Songwriter, arranger, entertainer, fl Toronto 1910-25. Known to have been a music teacher 1910-25 in Toronto, Brazil also was the composer or arranger (rarely the lyricist) of many songs published 1915-21 by Whaley Royce, Gordon V. Thompson, Anglo-Canadian, Feist, Chappell, and others. He composed music for 'Remember Nurse Cavell' (1915) and 'Dreaming of Home' (1916), both with lyrics by their publisher G.V. Thompson. His other collaborators included Florence M. Benjamin, Edith S. Butler, P.L. MacDonald, Private T. Pritchard of the 'Princess Pats,' and Fred Sims. Brazil also arranged several patriotic songs by Will J. White for publication by Musgrave. His setting of Lillian Waters McMurtry's 'Our Canada' was published by Chappell, and his 'Lord Byng, Canada Welcomes You' (Feist 1921) was recorded by baritone Fred Patton (Brunswick), the Canadian Military Band (Apex), and the Starr-Gennett Military Band. In 1923 Brazil was advertised as 'The Pianistic Humorist'.
