Julius Hecht

Julius or Jules Hecht. Baritone, teacher, composer, fl 1846-57. He came from Frankfurt-am-Main and may have been a student or teacher at the Brussels Cons (a claim which that institution cannot confirm) before coming to Toronto about 1846.

Julius or Jules Hecht. Baritone, teacher, composer, fl 1846-57. He came from Frankfurt-am-Main and may have been a student or teacher at the Brussels Cons (a claim which that institution cannot confirm) before coming to Toronto about 1846. He taught vocal music at the Adelaide Ladies' Academy and sang opera and oratorio selections and songs in many Toronto concerts between 1846 and 1857. A. & S. Nordheimer published at least five of his works, including a St. Lawrence Polka and a setting of Longfellow's 'The Light of Stars'.
