Quadra Island, BC, 270 km2, is situated at the North end of the Strait of Georgia between Vancouver Island and mainland BC, opposite Campbell River. The forested island, about 35 km long, forms the E side of Discovery Passage, a narrow, treacherous ship channel leading North out of the strait. Four small communities are dotted around its coast. It was named after 18th-century Spanish naval explorer Bodega y Quadra.
