Sabian Ltd.

Sabian Ltd. Cymbal manufacturer, established in 1982 by Robert Zildjian at Meductic, near Fredericton, in a factory opened in 1968 by Azco Ltd, a subsidiary of the US-based Avedis Zildjian Co. In a family dispute following the death in 1979 of the Zildjian patriarch, Avedis, his sons Robert and Armand divided the Avedis Zildjian Co. The former took the Canadian plant and established the Sabian line in competition with the parent company, sustaining the processes of cymbal making introduced by the Zildjian family in 17th-century Armenia. Some 200,000 Sabian cymbals were sold annually by 1989, representing about a third of the world market.
