Sonances

Sonances. Quarterly periodical founded in Quebec City and whose first issue appeared in October 1981. Jacques Boulay, his son Jean-Michel Boulay, Urbain Blanchet, Irène Brisson, Pierre Lapalme, Odile Magnan, Yves-G. Préfontaine, Marc-André Roberge, Noël Vallerand, Patrick Schupp, Marie-Claude Beauchamp, Louis Courteau, and Benoît Plourde have been members of its editorial committee over the years. With a run of some 1000 copies, the magazine has published essays; leading articles; critical discographies; articles honoring composers, including Serge Garant and Gilles Tremblay; interviews with musicians such as Gyorgy Ligeti, and Michel Longtin; as well as record, book and concert reviews. Guest contributors have included Louise Bail Milot, Maryvonne Kendergi, Fernand Ouellette, Harry Halbreich, Jean-Paul Despins, Élisabeth Gallat-Morin, and Marie-Thérèse Lefebvre. From 1983 the periodical obtained grants from the MACQ and the Canada Council. Due to a lack of contributions, the publication was interrupted in 1990 but reappeared with the 1991 Fall issue.
