30 Famous Francophones

​To celebrate its 30th anniversary, The Canadian Encyclopedia created 30 lists of 30 things that make us proud to be Canadian, from famous people and historic events, to iconic foods and influential artists.

As of the 2011 census, French was the mother tongue of 7,274,090 people, or 22 per cent of the Canadian population. French is also the first official language spoken by 7.7 million Canadians. To mark its 30th anniversary, the Encyclopedia drew up the following list of 30 francophones from all corners of French-speaking Canada who have achieved fame in various fields.
