Anna Weber, folk painter, fraktur artist (b in Earl Twp, Lancaster County, Pa 3 June 1814; d in Woolwich Twp, Waterloo County, Ont 12 Oct 1888). Weber immigrated to UC in 1825 and, following the death of her parents, moved from one Mennonite family to another until her own death. She painted watercolour panels for friends in traditional German heraldic styles that incorporated motifs of tulips, doves, peacocks and horses. Simple and rich in religious overtones, these works are fine examples of Canadian folk paintings. Many are still preserved by descendants of the original owners.
