Arthur Alexander Stoughton, architect (b at Mount Vernon, NY 2 Apr 1867; d at Mount Vernon, NY 14 Jan 1955). Was founder of the department of architecture at the U of Manitoba where he remained as head until his retirement in 1930.

Arthur Alexander Stoughton, architect (b at Mount Vernon, NY 2 Apr 1867; d at Mount Vernon, NY 14 Jan 1955). Was founder of the department of architecture at the U of Manitoba where he remained as head until his retirement in 1930. He was a graduate of architecture from Columbia U (1888) and attended the École des Beaux Arts in Paris (1888-93). His work in Manitoba included efforts to promote "civic art," including the plan for the U of Manitoba Fort Garry Campus, and later in the city of Winnipeg the Main, Norwood and Maryland bridges (1932) and Tier and Buller buildings at the university (1932).
