Domtar Inc is a Canadian manufacturer of paper products with headquarters in Montréal. Founded in 1929 as the Dominion Tar and Chemical Company Ltd to acquire the assets of a former business of the same name, the company became Domtar Ltd in 1965 and adopted its present name in 1977.

Founded in 1929 as the Dominion Tar and Chemical Company Ltd to acquire the assets of a former business of the same name, the company became Domtar Ltd in 1965 and adopted its present name in 1977. It operates through 4 main groups - fine papers, pulp and paper, construction and packaging - producing a wide variety of products ranging from fine papers, envelopes and newsprint to construction materials, kraft papers and corrugated containers. Domtar operates plants in Canada and the US and mills in Windsor, Québec and Cornwall, Ontario. In 1995 its sales amounted to $2.8 billion, assets were $3.1 billion and employees numbered almost 9000. DoFor Inc, a wholly owned subsidiary of Société Génerale de financement du Québec, holds 24% of the shares, while the other major shareholder is CAISSE DE DÉPÔT ET PLACEMENT DU QUÉBEC.
