Gino Vannelli, singer, composer (b at Montréal 16 June 1952). Though he launched his recording career as Vann-Elli in 1970, it wasn't until 4 years later, using his own name, that Vannelli first found fame. "People Gotta Move" became a hit in both Canada and the United States and set in motion a career which spawned such other popular songs as "I Just Wanna Stop" (1978), "Living Inside Myself" (1981), "Black Cars" (1985) and "Wild Horses" (1987).
In addition to several JUNO AWARD successes, Vannelli was also nominated for 4 Grammy Awards. After a 12-year hiatus from concert performance, Vannelli returned to the stage in 1990 and released a subsequent live album. Known in his early days for his good looks and sex appeal as well as his exuberant pop music, Vannelli's Yonder Tree (1995) saw him reveal a more spiritual side and move towards a jazzier sound, while 1998's Slow Love was a return to more ballads and groove-driven tracks.
