Ethel Jean Southworth. Journalist, b Omemee, near Lindsay, Ont, 9 Jan 1923, d Ottawa, Ont, 23 May 2008; BA history (Toronto) 1944. She studied organ with Godfrey Hewitt.

Southworth joined the news staff of The Ottawa Journal in 1948, served 1953-75 as the music and drama editor, and continued as an arts writer until the paper's demise in 1980. She then began to contribute a weekly arts column to other Ottawa papers including, beginning in 1988, The Ottawa Sun. Southworth was member and historian with the Media Club of Canada (originally the Canadian Women's Press Club.) She was chairman 1972-4 of the Ottawa Centre of RCCO, a board member of the Ottawa Kiwanis Music Festival, and was a contributor to EMC.
