John Alonzo Russell

 John Alonzo Russell, architect, educator (b at Hinsdale, NH 28 Oct 1907; d at Winnipeg 28 Dec 1966). A prominent figure in the arts in Winnipeg, he came to University of Manitoba in 1928 with degrees in architecture from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He became director of U of Man School of Architecture in 1946 and dean of the Faculty of Architecture in 1963. His involvement with the lively arts as director and designer included design of sets and costumes for the Winnipeg (later ROYAL WINNIPEG) Ballet and Little Theatre Group (predecessor to Manitoba Theatre Centre).
