John Fisher, broadcaster, publicist (b at Sackville, NB 29 Nov 1912; d at Boynton Beach, Fla 15 Feb 1981). A law graduate from Dalhousie University, he was a reporter and broadcaster in Halifax before joining the CBC as a "roving reporter." From 1943 to 1955, he travelled throughout the country, broadcasting its wonders on "John Fisher Reports," a popular, live, quarter-hour program heard 3 times a week over the national radio network. He called his scripts "pride builders" and was unofficially dubbed "Mr Canada." Thereafter, he served as executive director of the Canadian Tourist Association; special assistant to Prime Minister John DIEFENBAKER; chief centennial commissioner; and finally head of John Fisher Enterprises Ltd, a public-relations firm.
