Paul John Perry"PJ," jazz musician (b at Calgary 2 Dec 1941). His father, Paul Perry, led dance bands in Alberta (notably at Sylvan Lake) from 1939 to 1965. The younger Perry played saxophone in his father's band at 14, then worked widely in Canada and from 1963 to 1966 in Europe before settling first in Vancouver, then Edmonton (1975-81), Toronto (1981-84) and again Edmonton, in each instance playing alto or tenor saxophone in local studio and jazz bands. In Vancouver he was a member of the popular jazz-rock group Pacific Salt; in Edmonton he has worked extensively with Tommy BANKS. Among his 4 albums to 1999, the CD My Ideal received a Juno award in 1993, signalling his growing profile as one of the finest exponents of the bebop style in Canada.
