Paul Wells. Pianist, teacher, writer, composer, b Carthage, Mo, 22 Jul 1888, d Jacksonville, Fla, May 1927. He studied with Ernest Hutcheson at the Peabody Cons, Baltimore, and (after performances with the Baltimore and Minneapolis orchestras) continued in Europe with Josef Lhévinne and Leopold Godowsky. His European tours (1912, 1913) included several appearances with the Berlin Philharmonic. Later in 1913 he joined the faculty of the TCM, where his pupils included Gordon Hallett, Muriel Kerr, Scott Malcolm, and Stanley St John. He made his Toronto debut 15 Oct 1913 and toured western Canada in 1914. He subsequently appeared with the TSO and performed with the Toronto String Quartette and the Conservatory Trio. Wells' recitals often included his Sonata or other compositions.
