The Gerald Lampert Memorial Award
The Gerald Lampert Memorial Award, a LITERARY PRIZE, was established in 1980 by the League Of Canadian Poets. Awarded annually, it recognizes the best first collection of Poetry published by a Canadian in the preceding year, and carries a $1000 prize. It is presented at the League's Annual General Meeting.
The award is given in the memory of arts administrator Gerald Lampert, who took a particular interest in the work of new poets.
The Gerald Lampert Memorial Award signals the emergence of major poetic talents in Canada. Previous recipients include Paulette Jiles (1985), Di Brandt (1988), Steven Heighton (1990), Marilyn Dumont (1997), Anne Simpson (2001) and Suzanne Buffam (2006).
