Walter Broda, "Turk," hockey player (b at Brandon, Man 15 May 1914; d at Toronto 17 Oct 1972). He was an outstanding goaltender with TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS 1936-52, winning the VÉZINA TROPHY in 1941 and 1948, and sharing it with Al Rollins in 1951. He played his best under pressure, allowing only 2.09 goals per game in 101 playoff games. He had 61 shutouts in regular season play, and another 13 in playoffs.
