William Evans

William Evans, journalist, agronomist (b at Carana, Ire 22 Nov 1786; d at Côte St-Paul, Canada E 1 Feb 1857). Evans immigrated to Lower Canada in 1819 and settled on a farm in Côte St-Paul near Montréal.

William Evans, journalist, agronomist (b at Carana, Ire 22 Nov 1786; d at Côte St-Paul, Canada E 1 Feb 1857). Evans immigrated to Lower Canada in 1819 and settled on a farm in Côte St-Paul near Montréal. His first work, A Treatise on the Theory and Practice of Agriculture in Canada, was published in 1835 and translated into French a year later. An early agronomist, Evans published other books and agricultural journals, including the first agricultural journal to be published in French (1844), trying by writing and example to change and reform traditional farming techniques.
