James Houston
James Archibald Houston was a Canadian artist, author, filmmaker and civil administrator best known for having lived in the Arctic with Inuit. He helped to popularize Inuit art in Canada and the United States. Houston contributed to the rise of Inuit printmaking, and he was responsible for organizing one of the first major exhibitions of traditional Inuit art. Further, he recognized the importance art would have for Inuit communities with the decline of the fur trade. As an author, Houston wrote extensively of his experiences living in the Arctic with Inuit. His books included fiction and non-fiction, and he wrote several books for children or young-adult audiences.
