Waabishkigaabo

Waabishkigaabo (Standing White Bear) is of the Bizhew (Lynx) Clan and is a member of the Anishinaabe of Wauzhushk Onigum Nation. He resides on his nation, located on the northern shores of Lake of the Woods, with his daughter and family.

Waabishkigaabo studied political studies at the University of Manitoba, where he also served as the Indigenous students’ representative. He has held seats on Treaty #3, Chiefs of Ontario, and the Assembly of First Nations youth councils. Waabishkigaabo has been a public speaker, writer, and storyteller since the age of 12. Most recently he wrote for the Kenora Miner & News as a columnist. He hopes people learn a bit about his nation that he is so proud of, and encourages young Indigenous people to learn and write about their own nations with pride.
