Paxton Whitehead, actor, director (b at East Malling, Kent, England 17 October 1937). Whitehead attended Rugby School and London's Webber Academy of Dramatic Art. At 18, he made his professional stage debut in Eastbourne, then joined the Royal Shakespeare Company and toured Russia in Hamlet (1958).
Jean-Denis Leduc, artistic director (b at Valleyfield 12 Aug 1944). Although he directed some productions and appeared on stage until the mid eighties, his main contribution to Québécois theatre practice has, since 1975, undoubtedly been his work in artistic management at Théâtre de la Manufacture.
René Jodoin, animation filmmaker, producer (b at Hull, Qc 30 Dec 1920). Jodoin joined the NATIONAL FILM BOARD when he was scarcely out of l'École des beaux-arts, and worked with Norman MCLAREN on his newly established team in FILM ANIMATION. He also collaborated with McLaren on Alouette (1944).
Urjo Kareda, theatre director, dramaturge, arts journalist (b at Tallinn, Estonia 9 Feb 1944; d at Toronto 26 Dec 2001), was a key figure in the arts in Canada, from his earliest involvement in 1970 (as a film and theatre critic) until his death (as artistic director of the TARRAGON THEATRE).
