Harry Winston Jerome, OC, track and field athlete, consultant, teacher (born 30 September 1940 in Prince Albert, SK; died 7 December 1982 in Vancouver, BC). Three-time Olympian Harry Jerome won the bronze medal in the 100 m race at the 1964 Olympic Summer Games in Tokyo, Japan. He also won gold medals at the 1966 Commonwealth Games and the 1967 Pan American Games. Jerome broke the Canadian record in the 220-yard dash when he was only 18 years old and set or equalled world records in the 60-yard indoor dash, the 100-yard dash, the 100 m sprint and the 440-yard relay. Following his retirement from competition, he promoted amateur and youth sport through national and provincial programs. Jerome also advocated for better support of Canadian athletes and for greater representation of racialized Canadians on Canadian television and advertising. He was the recipient of numerous honours and awards, including the Order of Canada.

For many Canadians, particularly baby boomers and Generation X, the eight-game hockey series between Team Canada and the national team of the Soviet Union in September 1972 provided the greatest moment in Canada’s sporting history. Most expected that Canada would handily defeat the Soviet Union, but this confidence quickly disappeared when Canada lost the first game. The series was tied heading into the final game in Moscow, which ended in dramatic fashion, with Paul Henderson scoring in the final seconds to give Canada the victory. The series became as much a Cold War political battle of democracy versus communism and freedom versus oppression as it was about hockey. The series had a lasting impact on hockey in Canada and abroad.

Vicki Keith Munro (née Keith), marathon swimmer (born 26 February 1961 in Winnipeg, MB). Vicki Keith Munro is the most successful marathon swimmer in the history of the sport, currently holding an unprecedented 14 world records. Her marathon swimming career began in Kingston, Ont in August 1985 with her first world-record crossing of Lake Ontario (19.3 km in 11½ hours, butterfly stroke). In 1988, Keith Munro became the first person to cross all five Great Lakes.

Roberto Velazquez Alomar, Toronto Blue Jays baseball player 1990-95 (born at Ponce, Puerto Rico 5 Feb 1968). Roberto Alomar grew up in Salinas, Puerto Rico, the son of major league player Sandy Alomar and brother of major league all-star catcher Santos "Sandy" Alomar Jr.

Robitaille was not originally thought to be all-star NHL material. He was the 171st pick of the 1984 NHL entry draft, selected in the 9th round by the Los Angeles Kings.

Joey Votto, baseball player (born 10 September 1983 in Toronto, ON). Joey Votto is a Canadian baseball player with the Cincinnati Reds. In 2010, he won the National League’s Most Valuable Player Award and Hank Aaron Award, as well as the Lou Marsh Trophy for Canada’s outstanding athlete of the year. Two years later, he became one of the highest paid baseball players in major league history. In 2017, he was again awarded the Lou Marsh Trophy. He has also won the James “Tip” O’Neill Award seven times.

Big Ben, show jumper (b 1976 at Belgium, d at Guelph, Ont 11 Dec 1999). Bred in Belgium, Big Ben, partnered with seven-time Canadian Olympian Ian MILLAR, became one of the greatest show jumping horses in the world.

Hayden began swimming with the Mission Marlins swim club at age six. As a boy, Hayden was diagnosed with dyslexia; this resulted in him not understanding all that was told to him, and occasionally having to repeat his swimming lessons.

Kaetlyn Osmond, figure skater (born 5 December 1995 in Marystown, NL). Figure skater Kaetlyn Osmond has competed at two Olympic Winter Games, winning bronze in women’s figure skating (2018) and gold (2018) and silver (2014) in the team event. In 2018, she won gold at the World Figure Skating Championships, becoming the first Canadian women’s world champion in 45 years. She has also been Canadian champion (2013, 2014, 2017), has won gold medals at several international events, including Skate Canada International and the Nebelhorn Trophy.

Pierre Lueders, bobsledder (born 26 September 1970 in Edmonton, AB). Lueders is one of Canada's most decorated bobsledders, with two Olympic medals and numerous top finishes at world events in both two- and four-man sleds.

Findlay's first competitive season was in 2006. That year, she finished third at the Junior National Championship triathlon and 13th at the World Junior Championships, all the while continuing to compete as a high school athlete in track for St. Francis Xavier High School.

Matthew Stewart Hilton, boxer (b at Cooksville, Ont 27 Dec 1965). He was one of 7 children, 6 of whom were boys who all boxed because their father had never been defeated during his 8 years as Canadian Welterweight Champion.

Raised in Laval, Qué, Abel began DIVING in 1996. During her second year competing nationally, Abel became national champion in the 1 m diving event. Over the next 4 years, Abel continued to compete nationally as an individual diver.

Frank Cosentino, football player, educator (b at Hamilton, Ont 22 May 1937).

Isabelle Brasseur (b at Kingsbury, Qué, 28 July 1970) and Lloyd Eisler (b at Seaforth, Ont, 28 April 1963), skaters. Partners since January 1987, they went on to win 28 medals during their eight years in the amateur ranks.
