Sexsmith, Alta, incorporated as a village in 1929 and as a town in 1979, population 2418 (2011c), 1969 (2006c). The Town of Sexsmith is 43 km north of GRANDE PRAIRIE on Highway 2. The district was first settled in 1911, with a post office called Sexsmith established in 1912.

History Donnacona had its beginning in 1700 with the building of a paper mill at a site along the river called Fond Jacques-Cartier. A second mill was built in 1815 and a third mill, Donnacona Paper, was built in 1912.

A greenhouse comprising 2 ha for plant micropropagation, a salt mine and a poultry farm also provide employment. Contrecoeur was one of the first French establishments in North America. It was founded as the seigneurie de Contrecoeur in 1667 by Sieur Antoine Pécaudy de Contrecoeur, captain of the Carignan-Salières regiment. Antoine Pécaudy de Contrecoeur was born in 1596, at Vignieu en Dauphiné, France.

Mount Royal was part of a seigneury granted to the SULPICIAN order in the early 18th century. Separated from the growing city of Montréal by the mountain, the area remained primarily an agricultural community until the early 20th century.

Shellbrook is located near the northern edge of agricultural settlement in Saskatchewan. Its first homesteaders did not arrive until the late 19th century. Much of the land was covered by jack pine which had to be cleared before crops could be planted.

Pointe-Claire was first set up as a village municipality under the name of Saint-Joachim-de-la-Pointe-Claire in 1854. Its name was shortened when it was incorporated.

Cumberland, BC, incorporated as a village in 1958, population 3398 (2011c), 2762 (2006c). The Village of Cumberland is located on the east coast of Vancouver Island about 14 km south of COURTENAY and 93 km northwest of NANAIMO.

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries ranching was the primary activity in the area and from 1910 the ranchers were forced to share the land with grain farmers. In 1913 the CPR extended its line into the area and the Shaunavon site developed.
