Keller has exhibited extensively, especially in the Canadian West, has participated in the Emma Lake Artists Workshop (2000) and Triangle Artists Workshops both in New York State (1982) and Barcelona (1988), preceding the Barcelona Olympics. His work has developed steadily for some 30 years.

Sorel Etrog, CM, artist, writer, philosopher (born 29 August 1933 in Laşi, Romania; died 26 February 2014 in Toronto, Ontario). For more than half a century, Sorel Etrog was one of Canada’s most renowned contemporary sculptors.

Jean Éthier-Blais, professor, writer, literary critic (b at Sturgeon Falls, Ont 15 Nov 1925). Professor of French literature at McGill since 1962, Éthier-Blais regularly contributed literary criticism to Le Devoir from 1961. Some of these articles were published in Signets (3 vols, 1967, 1973).

Robert Charles Davidson, Haida artist (b at Hydaburg, Alaska 4 Nov 1946). Master carver, printmaker and jeweller, Robert Davidson is great-grandson and heir to the legacy of Charlie Edenshaw.

Petrowska Quilico gave recitals in Canada, the US, Europe, and the Middle East. In 1971, at the Ukrainian Institute of America in New York, she played works of Gilles Tremblay, Stockhausen, and others. In 1973 at the Canadian Cultural Centre in Paris she performed Serge Garant's Pièce No.

Eloul's characteristic monumental sculptures grace the public spaces of many Canadian cities. His gleaming rectangles of highly polished aluminum or stainless steel are balanced precariously at unusual angles, testing and probing the laws of gravity.

Clarence Gagnon, engraver, painter (b at Montréal 8 Nov 1881; d there 5 Jan 1942). After studying at the École normale du Plateau in Montréal, he received his artistic training from the painter William BRYMNER at the Art Association of Montreal 1897-1900.

Hector de Saint-Denys Garneau, poet (b at Montréal 13 June 1912; d at Ste-Catherine-de-Fossambault, Qué 24 Oct 1943). Saint-Denys Garneau's writing marks a turning point in the history of Québec poetry.

Henry James William Finn, expatriate actor, playwright (b at Sydney, NS 17 June 1787; d 13 Jan 1840). Taken to New York as a child, he travelled to London, eventually acting small parts at Haymarket Theatre 1811-12.

(John) Edgar Birch. Organist, conductor, teacher, b Reading, England, 25 Aug 1854, d Ottawa 23 Oct 1931. He was a chorister in the Chapel Royal and studied in London. He emigrated to Canada to teach at Trinity College School, Port Hope.

Dave Broadfoot, humorist, writer, performer, producer, director (born 5 December 1925 in Vancouver, BC; died 1 November 2016). Dave Broadfoot is an internationally known comedian who has probably provoked more laughter from Canadians than any performing artist in English Canada.

In the 1940s FitzGerald turned to coloured chalks, pen and ink, and sometimes oil on a palette knife. After his death a set of self-portraits and drawings of the nude were found, unusual for the shy painter. He painted the apple in all media and was stimulated by visits to the West Coast.

George Victor Ferguson, newspaper editor (b at Cupar, Scot 20 Apr 1897; d at Montréal 26 Jan 1977). One of John W. DAFOE's newspaper "pupils" and a distinguished journalist in his own right, Ferguson was educated at the University of Alberta and Oxford, where he was a Rhodes scholar.

Paul Frey, tenor (born 20 April 1941 in Heidelberg, ON). Although he did not start singing opera until he was 29, Paul Frey made his professional debut at 35 opposite Maureen Forrester, and went on to become a prominent tenor in North America and Europe.

Jacques Allard, professor, essayist (b at La Tuque, QC 1939). Jacques Allard successively pursued his studies at the Collège de Valleyfield (B.A., 1961), l'Université de Montréal (licence, 1964), l'École normale supérieure de Paris (C.A.P.E.S.,1964) and l'Université de Paris VIII (doctorate, 1976).

Sidney Furie, film director (b at Toronto 28 Feb 1933). After training at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, Pa, he worked at the CBC as a television writer and director from 1954 before striking off as an

Allan (Gordon) Bell. Composer, teacher, conductor, b Calgary 24 May 1953; BA (Alberta) 1974, M MUS (Alberta) 1980. He grew up in Edmonton, with no formal training in music, and did undergraduate work in philosophy 1970-4 at the University of Alberta.

Florence Edenshaw Davidson, Haida elder, artist (b at Masset, Queen Charlotte Is [Haida Gwaii], BC 1895; d there Dec 1993), daughter of famous Haida chief and artist Charlie Edenshaw.

John Wycliffe Lowes Forster, portrait and landscape painter, writer (b at Norval, Canada W 31 Dec 1850; d at Toronto 24 Apr 1938). In 1869 he began studying portraiture in Toronto. He travelled to England and Europe in 1875 and 1879 and studied painting in Paris.
