Barbara Cass-Beggs (b Cass, m Beggs). Teacher, folksong collector, singer, b Nottingham, England, 10 Nov 1904, d Ottawa 13 Sep 1990; ARCM 1927, LRAM 1928. She studied voice, piano, pedagogy, and composition at the RCM, where her teachers were Basil Allchin, Percy Buck, C.C.

Michael (Louis) Century. Composer, pianist, conductor, musicologist, administrator, b Salt Lake City, Ut, 24 Jul 1955; ARCT 1975, BA (Toronto) 1976, Degré moyen (Sorbonne) 1977, MA musicology (Berkeley) 1979, MA conducting (Iowa) 1983. His family moved to Canada when he was 5.

Louis Chartier. Baritone, teacher, fl 1914-30. In 1914 he was one of the students at the La Palme-Issaurel studio. He was a soloist at Notre-Dame Church in Montreal, and he gave a concert with Hercule Lavoie in Verdun, near Montreal.

Odette de Foras. Soprano, teacher, b Savoie, France, ca 1895, d Calgary 31 Dec 1976 or 1 Jan 1977. She spent her youth in Paris and at the Château de Thuyset, near Lake Geneva. With her family, she settled ca 1903 in High River, south of Calgary.

Antoine Rodrigue Albert Bouchard, organist, teacher, composer (born 22 March 1932 in St-Philippe-de-Néri, QC; died 21 October 2015 in Sainte-Claire, QC). Antoine Bouchard was an authority on organs and organ music. He performed as an organist in the United States, France, and particularly in eastern and central Canada. He taught organ at Université Laval from 1961 to 1997 and served as director of the School of Music there from 1977 to 1980. He was a founding member of the Amis de l'orgue de Québec and became a board member of the Canadian Music Council in 1978.

Paul Cadrin. Teacher, musicologist, choir conductor, b Montreal 14 Oct 1943; MA theory (McGill) 1979, PH D musicology (British Columbia) 1986. One of the first graduates of the specialized theory program at McGill University, he began to teach at Laval University in 1974.

Alicia Birkett. Teacher, soprano, b England, d Consett, County Durham, England, 31 Oct 1965.

Choeur Kattialine. Choir founded in 1962 in Montreal by its conductor, Jean-François Sénart. Made up of some 30 young amateurs, it made its name in a repertoire of Renaissance madrigals and motets and of folksongs of all countries. The name Kattialine is the Basque equivalent of Catherine.

In his mid-teens Carignan joined George Wade and his Toronto oldtime band, the Cornhuskers. He played violin and occasionally clarinet and saxophone for about five years and participated in the Cornhuskers Victor recordings.

Waizman, (Waizmann), Louis (Ludwig). Composer, arranger, librarian, teacher, violist, trombonist, pianist, b Salzburg 6 Nov 1863, d Toronto 24 Aug 1951.

Émile Gour. Tenor, choirmaster, b L'Assomption, near Montreal, 21 Apr 1893, d Montreal 24 Sep 1970. He studied piano and harmony with Alphonse Lavallée-Smith and voice with Salvator Issaurel 1915-22. While pursuing a career as a singer he remained in the employ of the Canadian postal service.

Margaret Miller Brown. Pianist, teacher, b Owen Sound, Ont, 22 Apr 1903, d there 15 Feb 1970. Born into a musical family, she studied in her hometown, in Toronto with Frank Welsman and Mona Bates, and in New York with Ernest Hutcheson.
