Leslie Feist. Singer, songwriter, musician, b Amherst, NS, 13 Feb 1976. Leslie Feist is the daughter of abstract painter Harold Feist and mother Lyn.

Griebel, Ferdinand. Violinist, b Berlin ca.1819, d Toronto 18 Feb 1858. He came from a family of musicians and studied violin with the concertmaster of the Königstadt theatre orchestra, and also with Charles-Auguste de Bériot and Wilhelm Ernst, probably during their visits to Berlin.

Florence (Anne) Brimson. Soprano, b Newmarket, near Toronto, 2 Oct 1873, d Santa Barbara, Cal, 4 Oct 1953. After initial study with W. Elliott Haslam at the Toronto College of Music she spent four years with Mathilde Marchesi in Paris.

Guild of Carillonneurs in North America (GCNA). Formed 3 Sep 1936 in Ottawa with a charter membership of 24 (8 Canadian) to foster the art of the carillon. Percival Price, at that time Dominion Carillonneur in Ottawa, was a co-founder; Edward Gammons (USA) was president until 1938.

Paul Horn. Flutist, saxophonist, clarinetist, composer, b New York 17 Mar 1930; B MUS (Oberlin) 1952, M MUS (Manhattan) 1953. He was a member in 1956 of the Sauter-Finegan Orchestra and 1956-8 of the Chico Hamilton Quintet.

(Paul) Claude Corbeil. Lyric bass, b Rimouski, Que, 17 Apr 1940; premier prix (CMM) 1958. He studied 1955-8 at the CMM under Dina Maria Narici and Ruzena Herlinger, and at 18 made his debut as Schaunard in La Bohème with the Quebec Symphony Orchestra conducted by Wilfrid Pelletier.

Agnes Butcher. Pianist, teacher, b Edmonton 11 Apr 1915; ATCM piano1930, LTCM piano 1936. She began piano studies in Brockville, Ont in 1920, moved to Hamilton in 1924 and studied with W.H. Hewlett, then continued in Toronto in 1934 with Viggo Kihl and Charles Peaker.

Eleanor Calbes. Soprano, b Aparri, Cagayan, the Philippines, 20 Feb 1944, naturalized Canadian 1967; teacher's diploma (Philippines) 1961.

Victor (Conrad) Braun. Baritone, b Windsor, Ont, 4 Aug 1935, d Ulm, Germany, 6 Jan 2001.

Helen Martens. Teacher, choir conductor, ethnomusicologist, b Sagradowska, Ukraine, 21 Feb 1928, naturalized Canadian 1935; LRSM 1952, BA (Minnesota) 1954, MA (Minnesota) 1956, PH D (Columbia) 1968. Her family emigrated to Canada in 1930, settling in Sanford, Man.

Jean (John)-Chrysostome Brauneis (b Johann Chrysostomus). Bandmaster, teacher, composer, baptized Herrnsheim, near Worms 29 Mar 1785, d Quebec City 15 Sep 1832. He moved to Quebec City about 1813, as a musician with the 70th Foot Regiment British army band.

Thelma Wilson (b Guttormson). Pianist, teacher, b Winnipeg, of Icelandic parents, 12 Apr 1919; ATCM 1935, LRSM 1935. She studied in Winnipeg with Louise McDowell and Leonard Heaton and developed a busy career as a solo performer, accompanist, and teacher.

(Henriette) Louise Burchell. Organist, teacher, composer, b Sydney, NS, 13 May 1882, d Falmouth, NS, 6 Jan 1962; ARCM, LTCL, B MUS (Oxford) 1908, MA (Radcliffe) 1929. She studied organ, piano, and theory with Peter LeSueur in St John's, Nfld, and then had special coaching in London from C.W.

Henry Prince. Music dealer, bandmaster, composer, b ?, d Montreal 1888? In 1854 he acquired the instrument retailing and sheet music business of Mead, Brother and Co, continuing its operation under his own name. The bulk of his stock was imported from the USA and Europe.
